What is a Treasure Hunt?
A Treasure Hunt in Essex is the best way to explore a new destination whilst having fun with friends and family. A perfect socially distanced outdoor activity for a cheap day out with the kids. Treasure Trails design their adventures with families in mind. Each map has easy to follow directions and clues that the whole family can solve together. You can choose whether to opt for a paper map or you can complete the trail on their designated app! The treasure trails are self led so you are free to start and finish your treasure hunt at your own leisure and even change days if the weather doesn’t look agreeable. All the locations of the treasure hunts are outdoors and in public spaces, so you don’t have to worry about places being open or closed. If you get stuck, that doesn’t matter, you can get a clue!

Who are they for?
Treasure Hunts are suitable for all ages. Younger children in the group may need some assistance with clues but there is still lots they can do to help solve the mystery. They will definitely have fun looking out for items and spending time outdoors. On most trails you normally go past a park, so you can stop off for a play on way! Equally there is plenty to challenge every age member. Completing these trails have been challenging and so much fun in groups with both children and adults. Treasure Hunts are best suited for small groups of up to 4-5 people. We quite often do a treasure trail as a fun date day out.
Where are they?

Chelmsford Historic Waterway Treasure Trail
This was a spectacular adventure trail, with some amazing and interesting view points. We had to eliminate locations on the map by solving the clues and finding the final resting place of the treasure. Once you have completed your quest you can text the answer to Treasure Trails and be entered into a monthly prize draw.
We walked along the Canals and Waterways and got to see a completely different side of Chelmsford. The Trail started at Springfield Basin and did a big loop so you finished where you started. It was approximately 2 miles long and 2 hours is recommended for completion. Part of the trail led us through the High Street which presented a great opportunity for a refreshments stop. Please bear in mind that there is a lot of water on this trail and not always behind railings so be mindful of little ones. The whole of this trail is on pavement so both buggy and wheelchair friendly.
You do not require a map as each booklet has clear directions to follow. We found both the directions simple to follow and the clues fun and fairly simple to locate and solve. You can text and request a clue if you are stuck during a treasure hunt in Essex. All details are in your Treasure Trail booklet.

Rayleigh – Murder Mystery Treasure Trail
This Treasure Hunt is an exciting murder mystery where you play detective to find out ‘Who Dunnit’! The Rayleigh Treasure Hunt takes you on a interesting historic tour of the town whilst solving clues and eliminating suspects and weapons. You get to walk along the High Street and visit the gorgeous sights of Rayleigh Windmill, Rayleigh Mount, the Church and the park. There are plenty of places to stop for refreshments or breaks. This trail is approximately 1.5 miles long and 1.5 hours is recommended. We did take slightly longer on this trail as some of the clues were a little tricky.
The whole of this trail is on pavement so both buggy and wheelchair friendly. You do not require a map as each booklet has clear directions to follow. If you do get stuck during a treasure hunt in Essex you can text and ask for a clue. All details are in your Treasure Trail booklet.
