Afternoon Tea at Stifford Hall Hotel

The Venue

Stifford Hall Hotel is an elegant 18th century Georgian mansion set amongst 6 acres of landscaped gardens. This is a tranquil haven to enjoy your afternoon tea away from all the hustle and bustle. Located in the picturesque village of North Stifford in Essex, just 20 minutes outside of London. Over the years, I have visited Stifford Hall Hotel for Afternoon Tea several times. Each time I have been very impressed, that is why they feature on ‘The Best Afternoon Teas in Essex’.

Afternoon Tea at Stifford Hall Hotel can be enjoyed al fresco. Either on their heated sheltered terrace or within the newly installed Pagoda overlooking the pretty gardens. Once Covid restrictions have been lifted, you then have the option to enjoy your afternoon tea indoors. Stifford Hall Hotel offers several options, from the cosy and intimate setting of the Library to the light and airy Garden Suite with views over the gardens. Stifford Hall Hotel has a very relaxed and comfortable feel and the staff couldn’t be more helpful.

The Savouries

Each time I experience an afternoon tea at Stifford Hall Hotel I am blown away by the sheer amount of sandwiches. This has been consistent on every visit. Sandwiches are presented on a 3 tier cake stand. The top tier features a selection of vegetarian options; egg, cheese and cream cheese. The middle tier a selection of fish sandwiches; salmon, tuna and prawn. On the bottom tier are a selection of meat sandwiches; beef, chicken and ham. Sandwiches generously filled and are prepared using a mix of super fresh, white and wholemeal bread. If you love the savoury course, then you would not be disappointed.

The Sweet Stuff

The Afternoon Tea is served with an abundance of cakes to suit any appetite. We received a lovely selection of mini cakes, fresh fruit tarts, chocolate eclairs, macaroons, red velvet cake, victoria sponge, custard slices and the main event… scones. The scones at Stifford Hall Hotel are all prepared for you, they are pre-cut and covered with plenty of strawberry jam, clotted cream and a fresh strawberry on top! We really enjoyed the exciting and varied selection of cakes on offer and had enough to take home with us!

Afternoon tea is served with unlimited tea or coffee. Yet again, I really enjoyed my visit to Stifford Hall Hotel. It is a real hidden gem and absolutely deserves its place on The Best Afternoon Teas In Essex list.
