After two years of lockdowns and uncertainty following the pandemics. It is now time to get back outside and enjoy socialising once more. In Essex, there are countless events and activities going ahead that will make sure you will have plenty of happy memories at the end of the year. Here are some of the top Events in Essex 2022 to add to your diary for the year ahead:

Creamfields South, Hylands Park

Music lovers rejoice as the popular camping festival, Creamfields South, is back over the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend, 2-4th June. Taking place in Hylands Park, Creamfields is an electronic dance music festival. This is guaranteed to kick off your summer in the perfect way with capacity for 50,000 music enthusiasts.

The Chelmer Stakes

Chelmsford Race Course hosts many fantastic Music Events throughout the year including: Clockstock, Sigma, Sophie Ellis-Bexter, Steps and Ministry of Sound to name but a few. They also have a Spring Beer Festival on 14th May. Horse racing fans will be looking forward to Essex’s racecourse events in 2022. The Chelmer Stakes is taking place at Chelmsford City Racecourse. It’s the first Listed race of the year and is guaranteed to be a hotly anticipated event with an impressive £87,500 in prize money. 

Colchester Food and Drink Festival

Held in Colchester’s Castle Park on 25th and 27th June, this year’s Colchester Food and Drink festival offers a bounty of exciting stalls of both local and international products to try. It’s a popular event that combines delicious food and drink with music and artisanal goodies. The ideal way to enjoy the summer weather. 

Craft & Design Show 

RHS Hyde Hall are hosting a Craft & Design Show from 29th April to 2nd May. Discover the very best in contemporary Art, Craft and Design. A fantastic opportunity to buy from an inspiring range of original and affordable products, created by carefully selected makers and designers. Browse, shop, stop for refreshments and take home something unique.

Maldon Mud Race

An annual event that attracts visitors from across Europe to raise money for charity. The Maldon Mud Race takes place at Maldon Promenade Park and is always a fun experience. The Maldon Mud Race is once again an eagerly-anticipated event and will be held on 24th April. 

Temple at War

A unique military reenactment event with a popular vintage scene, the Temple at War event at Cressing boasts exhibitions and new attractions for May 2022. Organisers have pulled out all the stops to put on one of the best events of the year. With over 900 authentic reenactors expected to attend, it’s sure to be a memorable event where you can watch them portray characters and scenes from World War I through to the present day. 

Nevendon Manor Events

Nevendon Manor Events have two enchanting events ‘Once Upon a Time’ and Unicorn & Princesses. Both are a fun interactive magical journey around the beautiful grounds, through the amazing scenery, you will be transported into a world full of imagination! Essex Book Festival

A different and altogether calmer affair compared to Creamfields or Maldon Mud Race. The Essex Book Festival is one for enthusiastic readers. Running throughout June, there are over 100 events taking place in more than 45 venues across Essex. So whether you try to tick off as many as possible or you can only make one or two, there’s sure to be something for everyone. 

National Flower Show

Returning to Hylands House in May, the National Flower Show offers up three days of gardening inspiration. From the spectacular Floral Pavilion to the Outdoor Plant Village and the Home and Country Pavilion. You’ll be inundated with amazing products, exhibitors and inspiration for your own home and garden. 

Steam Day

A favourite with families and young children, Steam Day offers up the chance to visit the Museum, take a ride in vintage wagons and explore the miniature railway. With unlimited rides between 10.30 and 3.30 every day, as well as period waiting rooms, the charming Victorian Goods Shed and much more to explore. It’s a great day out for the whole family and there are dates running from April through to late August. 

Astaria Candlelight Illuminations

A magical evening for all ages, the Astaria Candlelight Illuminations boasts over 400 candlelit lanterns with fairies and elves at the Model Village. With free entry to the village and the museum on select days throughout October, it’s a beautiful event and one that you and your little ones are sure to enjoy.

Steampunk into Christmas

Held at the Museum of Power, the Steampunk into Christmas event will take place on 6th November. This is perfect if you’re looking for an alternative Christmas activity. With Santa visits, steam train rides and a steampunk-themed Christmas market where you can pick up unique gifts for loved ones. This event is a great way to get into the Christmas spirit and enjoy a fun day out as a family.

Essex has a packed calendar of events and days out to enjoy, from flowers and trains to Christmas events and sports. No matter what your interest and whether you’re heading out with friends or as a family, you’re sure to find something to enjoy.
