Billionaire Boy West End Show

We were invited to the press event of David Walliams ‘Billionaire Boy West End Show’ adapted from his hit book. This show is playing at the Garrick Theatre in Leicester until 22nd August 2021 before it goes on tour across the country.

The Story

The story of the Billionaire Boy is about a teenage boy ‘Joe Spud’, played by Matthew Gordon. A truly loveable character, who faces the hardship of finding a true friend. He is the boy that has it all, he is the richest boy in the country, yet he doesn’t have the one thing he truly wants, and that’s a friend. Scared and embarrassed to tell people that he is son of the Bum Fresh toilet paper Billionaire. Joe tries to meet friends by hiding this fact to try and find a genuine friendship. He finds himself joining a new school in the hope of finding a true friend.

The Show

The stage design of the Billionaire Boy was very clever. It uses stacks of toilet roll and boxes that opened up to reveal different parts of the set. This was an ingenious way of completely transforming the stage from Bum Fresh Towers Mansion into the school, canteen or another scene from the book.

With a fairly small cast, many of the Billionaire Boy team juggle several different roles. Quickly switching costumes and wigs within minutes to transform their selves into yet another character.

The theatre production of the Billionaire Boy is a hilarious show to watch with songs that will have you belly laughing and singing along. The ‘Bum Fresh’ song will definitely stick in your mind long after the show has finished. We laughed out loud throughout the production of Billionaire Boy.

The school cook, played by Emma Matthews was one of our favourite characters, creating disgusting school dinners for the children to eat. She had us in tears of laughter as she fanned her crotch with a colander during her performance! This is definitely a super funny, family friendly show, all ages will love it. Definitely a must see family West End Show.
