We are huge fans of Horrible Histories and absolutely love to see them Live on Stage. We know to expect lots of shocking and gory facts, along with plenty of laughs! Horrible Christmas is sure to not disappoint.
We previously watched Terrible Tudors Live on Stage. Which played at London’s Garrick Theatre in Leicester Square and we loved every minute. It was a real laugh out loud production from start to finish. With some audience participation included and definitely a song or two that got stuck in our heads long after the show had ended. We laughed out loud throughout the production. This was definitely a super funny, family friendly show, all ages love it. ‘When you think of Christmas, many things usually come to mind – family, joy, goodwill, presents… – but how about Oliver Cromwell (fact)? Or Henry VIII (fact)?
When Christmas comes under threat from a jolly man dressed in red, it’s up to one young courageous boy to save the day – but can he save Christmas? From Victorian villains to Medieval monks, Puritan parties to Tudor treats, join us on a hair-raising adventure through the history of Christmas in the company of Charles Dickens, Oliver Cromwell, King Henry VIII and St Nicholas as they all join forces to save the festive season!

To get you in the mood for Horrible Christmas, here are TEN HORRIBLE FACTS ABOUT CHRISTMAS:
- William the Conqueror was crowned on Christmas Day but when the guards outside heard a huge cheer they thought a rebellion had started and burnt all the houses in the area.
- In Greenland they eat a Christmas delicacy called Kiviak which is the body of a seal filled with hundreds of small birds left to ferment for three months.
- In 1644 the Puritans banned Christmas, mince pies and going to church (unless it was a Sunday) and ordered all shops to stay open.
- In a town in Sweden the people celebrate Christmas by burning down a giant figure of a goat.
- The reason that carol singers knock on your door and pester you is because Medieval priests threw them out of the church, so ever since they sing outside houses instead.
- An old English custom was to beat children on 28 December to remind them of Herod’s cruelty in massacring all the babies in Bethlehem.
- Nativity scenes in Catalonia feature a character doing a poo.
- The Good King Wenceslas celebrated in the carol was a duke not a king and was chopped into pieces by his mother and brother.
- The first ever bomb to land on British soil was dropped by a German airship at Christmas 1914.
- Brussels sprouts are first mentioned in books in 1587 and children have had to suffer them at Christmas ever since.
